Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick is a post-apocalyptic novel that follows tumor ridden 17 year old Alex; Tom, a solider running away from his duties; and Ellie, a temperamental 8 year old angry at the world, as they try and survive against "brain-zapped" kids. Alex realizes she can smell again (a trait taken away by her brain tumor) which helps her know when the Changed are around. Dogs suddenly love her and falling in love (with two men) was definitely not her idea. This is a novel you'll be happy you read!
